Course Syllabus

Welcome to the course Professional learning in a digital world!

The course starts 3 September and ends Jan 17 2021. Two on-campus meeting are offered (3.9 and 22.10), the rest is online via Zoom or here in Canvas.

The course is offered both as a free-standing course and as an elective course for the IT & Learning master program students! We will work the transformation of professional and workplace learning in relation to the digitalisation of formal and informal lifelong learning in institutional, corporate, and industrial sectors. By focusing on the changing practices of professionals in different areas like engineering, healthcare/nursing and teaching, the course addresses the various ways that digital technologies reconfigure activities such as training, coaching and professional community participation.

Learning outcomes

Seven learning goals are included in the course and will be assessed based on two assignments.

Knowledge and understanding

- describe, characterize and classify different approaches to digital professional learning (L1)
- identify key trends in relation to the digitalisation of professional learning (L2)

Competence and skills

- identify and critically examine theories relevant for understanding digitalisation processes in relation to professional learning (L3)
- contextualize digital technology use in relation to professional learning in different sectors (L4)
- suggest and motivate a relevant design and technological platform for a specific professional learning practice (L5)

Judgement and approach
- judge the relevance of different digital approaches to professional learning (L6)
- evaluate the impact of digitalisation on different professional learning practices (L7)

Form of teaching

The course is based on both net-based activities, including lectures, workshops, and seminars. Zoom is used for online video conferencing. Group and individual work are a part of the course. 

Assessment

The assessment is based on the following assignments:

  • Group based presentation and report, graded pass (G), or fail (U)
  • Individually written paper, graded pass with distinction (VG), pass (G), or fail (U)
