Special arrangements HT2020!

The course will be run as a distance course HT2020! All teacher-led activities, including lectures and computer-exercies, will be delivered via Zoom. However, you may participate either on your own computer, or using computers in the student labs at the Institute for Earth Sciences. PLEASE READ THE SECTION SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE BELOW!

Note  that this course is learning-by-doing - most of the time you spend on the course is reading performing exercises using Canvas and Matlab, and completing the two assignments. The teacher-led activities are only a small component of the total work!

SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE:

In this course we use the data analysis package Matlab. You may work on your own computers, or on computers in the student computer labs, or both. Please note that the student computer labs are not booked all day for the entire duration of the course.

  • if you intend to work on the the department's PCs, bring a USB "memory stick", or have some web-based cloud-solution organized.
  • if you intend to use your own lap-top, you can choose between a) installing Matlab, or b) using Matlab-online. For most of the exercises in the course, you can switch between them!
    • if you wish to download and install Matlab, find the instructions at the GU Student Portal Any recent version of Matlab is fine, and any modern computer is sufficient. In the actual Matlab installer, I suggest you de-select all packages, and just install  the core MATLAB and the Statistics and Machine Learning Toolbox, the Curve Fitting Toolbox.
  • The course uses a few recorded screencasts where I demonstrate how to use Matlab - you might want to bring earphones if you listen to these in the student labs so you do not disturb others!

För att som inloggad student nå den kurs du ska läsa behöver du vara registrerade på den kursen vid den aktuella terminen.

Getting access to the course content.

New students needs to activate their student account before they can login to Canvas.
As a student you also need to be registered on a course at the university to access Canvas. When you are logged in as a student and to be able to reach the specific course that you will study, you need to be registered for that course for the actual semester.
